Over 18 years ago, I received a call asking if “I” could translate some mining documents. Happy to get a new client, I said eagerly said “Yes!”, and when I asked how many pages or words the project had, I was told that they did not know, but that some documents were in electronic format, and that they also had several rooms full of documents. The client also said that they needed the documents translated “right away”.
For this project, AZ World ended up translating close to 5 million words. I put together a team of over 70 linguists (we had economists, engineers, accountants, lawyers, geologists, and DTP specialists) to work on this translation project. We translated legal, environmental, community, permits, engineering documents, policies and procedures, and many other documents.
The development of this mining project did not proceed, mainly due to environmental issues. However, I have heard recently that new studies are now underway.
I hope that this time the mining company does not leave the translations to the last minute
and want them “right away” again.
