Our founder and president, Ana María Zúñiga, began as a freelance translator in Santiago, Chile in 1992, and continued providing translation and interpretation services when she moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1997. She incorporated her practice as AZ World Translation and Interpretation Inc. (AZ World) in 2007 as a full-service professional translation and interpretation agency initially focussed on the mining industry and related fields such as engineering, environmental and software.

Based in Vancouver, AZ World’s corporate clients tend to be either global businesses operating in numerous languages, or those expanding internationally into non-English speaking markets – both need translation and interpretation services. Our goal is to help our clients grow their business by “bridging cultural divides with words” to reach their audience. A member of the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia, of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta / Association des traducteurs et interprètes de l’Alberta (ATIA) and the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario – L’Association des traducteurs et interprètes de l’Ontario (ATIO). Ana Maria Zúñiga has been a market leader in the industry for over thirty years. A Certified Translator from English to Spanish, she obtained her degree in English–Spanish and French–Spanish Translation from Escuela Americana de Traductores e Intérpretes in Santiago, Chile. Ana Maria obtained interpretation certificates as a Court Interpreter, a Health Interpreter and a Community Interpreter from Vancouver Community College.

Since 1992, Ana Maria has worked as a translator and interpreter, providing translation services for major clients in the mining, engineering, construction, environmental, medical, healthcare, accounting, audit, risk and legal fields and the public sector. She is fluent in several languages, including English, French and her native Spanish and also reads and understands spoken Portuguese.

Ana Maria’s knowledge and use of computer assisted translation software, AI and Neural Machine Translation, combined with her resource library of glossaries, and her industry-specific and specialized dictionaries allow her to adapt her methods to meet and exceed clients’ specific needs.

Ana Maria is a recipient of the RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award for 2015.

Ana Maria was named as the 2015 Business Person of the Year by the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce for their 18th Annual Business Excellence Awards.

Ana María also belongs to several industry organizations including: Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), the Association for Mineral Exploration of British Columbia (AMEBC), and Women in Mining (WIM).

Charles Meredith

Part of the AZ World translation company team since October 2014, Charles, has contributed to AZ World’s success in the financial, operational and marketing areas.

Charles has over 30 years of experience in the strategic and business planning, business process development, implementation and improvement as a consultant with organizations such as KPMG, BearingPoint, as well as being an independent consultant where he served over 200 clients in the energy, mining, environmental, healthcare and recycling industries.

Since joining AZ World, Charles has developed and implemented processes with a view to optimizing the way that we operate in the areas of finance, accounting, operations, and developing proposals. He also supports our team’s client account managers and project managers as required.

Charles holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Marketing, from the University of Alberta.

Charles has been an active member of the University of Alberta’s co-operative education program with the Faculty of Commerce; and a guest advisory with Business Link, a joint venture between Industry Canada and Alberta Economic Development. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Edmonton YMCA, participating in many initiatives.

Project Administrator

Part of the AZ World team since 2011, Dylan Book, has contributed to AZ World’s success in the areas of marketing, operations, and project management.

Since becoming Project Administrator in December of 2013, Dylan has been focused on building AZ World’s team of Asian language linguists as well as developing and/or improving many of AZ World’s processes. As our Project Administrator, he also supports our team as a client account manager and project manager when required.

Dylan holds a Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the University of British Columbia (UBC), as well as a Masters of Business Administration from the UBC Sauder School of Business.  He is also certified as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute.

Dylan is an active member of Scouts Canada both as an advisor and mentor to Rover Scouts and Scouts.

Phillip Crewe

Project Manager

A member of the AZ World team since 2020, Phil has bridged the cultural divide from the world of music to the world of languages. A career professional musician, Phil joined AZ World when gatherings were restricted due to COVID. He has been enjoying the challenge of managing the translation of different language combinations after years of translating the universal language of music.

Phil has been a professional musician for 40 years, including Principal Timpanist for the Vancouver Opera since 1997 and Principal Percussionist and Timpanist for Lions Gate Sinfonia. As a freelance drummer and percussionist, he has played everything from heavy metal to symphony orchestra and soundtracks, and has performed in concert with renowned artists including Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti, and The Who, to name a few.

Phillip has a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion from the University of British Columbia and an Artist Diploma in Timpani from the Vancouver Academy of Music.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Phillip is an avid rock and mineral collector, lapidarist, race car driver, and performance engine builder.

The latest addition to the AZ World team in 2023, Fernanda has been active in the translation and interpretation industry for over 20 years as a full-time interpreter and translator in her native Buenos Aires, Argentina. She primarily interprets English – Spanish; and is proficient at both in-person interpretation as well as the use of state-of-the-art remote video & audio interpretation technology which enables her to consistently deliver high-quality solutions to clients.

Whenever there is a challenging language project that can literally take her outside the box (aka the translation booth), she thrives on the challenge and enjoys giving a voice to clients who need assistance to get their message across a language divide.

She has significant experience interpreting for oil and gas and the natural resource industry, United Nations agencies, as well as economic and financial industry sector clients. Fernanda has performed interpretations for SAP implementations, information technology and cybersecurity projects, corporate strategy roll-outs, marketing & communications, human resources, and public policy.

Fernanda obtained a Bachelor’s Degree (Communication Science) from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina(1997).  She also attended the Rut Simcovich Interpreting School, where she was mentored by Rut herself and took her first steps in the profession. 

Languages have always been Fernanda’s true passion; she is fluent in Spanish, English, and Italian, and she is now studying German.

María Eugenia has been part of the AZ World team since 2016, and has been active in the translation industry for over 12 years.

She has an Engineering Bachelor’s Degree and two Master’s Degrees (Project Management as well as Reliability and Risk Engineering); and her expertise is further underscored by her extensive background spanning more than 20 years in the Oil and Gas industry. Maria Eugenia obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in English–Spanish Translation from Adelphi University (New York, USA) in 2012.

Maria Eugenia obtained a Master’s Degree in Reliability and Risk Engineering from the Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain (2009), a Master’s Degree in Industrial Projects Management from the Universidad Rafael Belloso Chacin in Maracaibo, Venezuela (2001) and a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering from the Universidad Rafael Belloso Chacin, Maracaibo, Venezuela (1996).

Maria Eugenia works as a professional translator, reviewer, editor/proof-reader and project manager – in Venezuela, Colombia and the United States – for major clients in technical fields (such as oil and gas, mining, environmental, automotive, and engineering), religious fields (Christian literature, Bible studies), as well as audiovisual fields (video translation, subtitling, voice-over recording and script translations).

Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, Maria Eugenia primarily translates from English and French into Spanish. Her proficiency in state-of-the-art technology and CAT tools, AI and Neural Machine translation tools enables her to consistently deliver high-quality solutions to clients.

Maria Eugenia is a member in good standing of the American Translators Association (ATA) and the Engineers Association of Venezuela.
